Yes the World Series!! 43 yrs ago the 1981 Yankees lost to the Dodgers and Reggie (earned Mr. October status vs Dodgers in ‘77-78) wasn’t re-signed, so off to free agency. And Dave Winfield was soon signed only to be annoited Mr May…one of George Steinbrenner’s best calls ever! The two winningest clubs tee it up again. Amen.
It's pretty exciting stuff...I can't remember who won the FedExCup but I can still picture Bob Welch striking out Reggie in '78. Dodger Stadium gets surprisingly loud for such a big place and it was shaking! It was a bit scary for a 7 year old!
Thanks. This was pure projection...and Dodger game distraction. I'm still feeling the pain from having to write about that one. Doc was tough to get much out of even after winning.
Great photo. Judge vs. Ohtani is a dream for baseball fans, although it's more likely going to be Stanton/Soto vs. Ohtani unless Judge wakes up. Let's hope they are as exciting as those games in the 1970s, with the same outcome :)
Great stuff, but trying to put lipstick on a pig, well you know. It is unimaginable how poorly this valuable property has been mismanaged for the last 6 years. I guess the excitement is the Masters is right around the bend?
It is unimaginable and probably not getting better based on the signs we are getting. But that's why we focus on the majors here. They first is not far off!
Odd (interesting?) that I can remember events in the Dodger vs Yankees history from 1955 and on but can't remember (don't care) who won the FEDEX Cup or the Open ... or ...
Great players and great announcers. In 1981 they were Vin Scully, Keith Jackson, Howard Cosell. This year will be a good opportunity to mute the mic.
Garvey ... correct about being a clutch hitter. Throw the ball from first to home ... quite an adventure. That's why the Dodgers stopped throwing the ball around the horn after a strike out.
Koufax ... pure talent ... Sutton and Drysdale? Members of the Bob Gibson school of pitching.
Good stories for those involved with wins this past weekend. Saw some dp tour but that’s it. Check out the daily prices. I’ll let the corporate bros have them. The prices the USGA charged for those suites should compensate for the average person, $150 for a gallery ticket on the weekend. My tv is a great spot. Thanks Geoff.
Yes it's a big price given you aren't guaranteed a seat as you are at home. But it's amazing to see how the Ryder Cup suddenly has made it look like a bargain!
Dodger Stadium is and always has been beautiful. It’s the only surviving park built in the 60’s and early 70’s. The story of how it was developed and who was displaced is ugly, but that’s a story repeated over and over again in urban infrastructure building, everywhere. No urban planner ever built a highway in a wealthy neighborhood.
Quick correction. Ghim Lost that US Amateur final to Doc Redman. I walked behind that match in the fairway. And Redman played the best last three holes I've ever seen in person. Eagled 17, birdied 18 and birdied 10 in the playoff :)
I knew Arnie was long, but not THAT long!
Cue Brooks and Dunn ".....only in Americaaaa"
"Reportedly"
That's top-notch.

I loved the Masters damage photos. I agree the course will recover well.
Doug Ghim did not win the 2017 U.S. Amateur. He was runner-up to Doc Redman.

Can't script it much better, though the managers aren't as spicy as those years!

Why be rude to pigs? ;)

Great photo
I’m sure you are not campaigning
Sutton called Garvey “the greatest clutch hitter I played with
Garvey and Faldo have quite a bit in common

Cut school Game 1 ‘63 to watch Koufax mow them down
Same series in which Joe Pepitone had his Bill Buckner moment.
Pepitone lost throw in the sea of white shirts
Koufax won Games 1 and 4
Drysdale and Podres pitched great games
Skowron had big hit in Game one IN DODGER UNIFORM

I had to double take and make sure Doc beat Ghim. Wild last few holes.
The commenters are more excited about Yankees vs Dodgers than golf ... For good reasons.
Geoff ... Any chance you'll be reporting from Chavez Ravine?
