Belgium has a tour winner and strong Ryder Cup contender. Plus, a bunch of notes from the last Phoenix Open in its traditional form, along with international wins by Li, Oh, Geary, Newman and Raad.
Seemed like everyone at the WM was hitting 330 yard drives and 230 yard 6 irons. Maybe it’s the dessert air. It’s one thing when Rory hits it 330 but it gets pretty boring when half the field does it. And there’s no such thing as a long par 4 or 3-shot par 5.
Athletes! Agronomy! It is remarkable to watch how the Tour can't finish rounds without any delays and still think it's a good idea to resist a rollback. But now opportunities have been lost instead and yet I'd guess 95% of the players oppose the rollback. Grown men and their free equipment!
I think fitness, including speed training, accounts for some of the distance gains. Call it 25%. The rest is technology. Interestingly, most track and field records are pretty sticky. Some date back into the 90’s.
Another great vocabulary lesson by Geoff ... "dreck" ... "refulgent". Words I never even heard of! Woops I ended the sentence with a preposition.
Use of "drone". Maybe Geoff could have been at little more dramatic ... like puppet or marionette.
"Military grade moron". Are we complimenting the moron? Are there different grades of moron? Is military grade entry level or the GOAT level? Certainly a topic to be discussed over a few beers.
Today's Quad ... a good start to the week. I now depart for my urologist appointment. Best described as "BOHICA". I'll leave it up to Geoff's more imaginative readers to figure out the acronym.
That reminds me of one of my favorite lyrics by Frank Zappa from a song where he was referencing the very best that humanity has to offer: The Televangelist. Think Robert Tilton. "There's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over." Best of luck with the apppointment, sir.
Detry was a bright spot, but the rest not so much - tone deaf ads on auto repeat (gambling, lebron and the insufferable little guy, drugs,insurance,.....), droning aircraft noise, 20 something bros yelling stupid stuff, the relief ritual because someone hit it under a bush...... and, are the cbs guys required to say "world #1" every time scheffler is about to appear on the screen?
I predict Tiger makes the cut at the Genesis. Oh wait - there is no cut. If he finishes in the top 60 I will be amazed. He will provide great TV either way.
Shrewd prediction, will see if I can get that on FanDuel. Looking at the current forecast, there's an outside chance he could be playing on Monday since they'll be trying to get a full field around each day. Hopefully they get in enough play on Thursday to avoid that.
When will this wink and a nod towards cheating be addressed on the Tour? In fact if you want to speed up play there should be a responsibility to know the rules and the players should not be allowed to have rulings until after the round. Embarrassing that Tour players can not take the simplest of drops without guidance.
As with the distance related issues, it's bizarre that they don't see how bad it looks when players push the boundaries of the rules or just flat out break them. And yes, the drop stuff is wild to see how long it takes. It felt like ten minutes with Spieth yesterday (I know it wasn't but...).
Mr. Detry's swing/action has much the look, feel and tempo of the Big Easy and Louis Oosthuizen. Seemingly the attitude, as well. It's great to see him finally break through. What a statement. TJH hit the nail on the head about the broadcast, though: Greasy, at best. Pmbenedict, too: The "power game" has rendered golf to the realm of the insubstantial.
Two things I took note of: Eamon Lynch's interview with Padraig Harrington and the changes re: field size, Monday Q's, etc. F'ing brilliant. Here's a You Tube link for the Quadrilateralites who may have missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf-5T0J3JVM
And in what was perhaps the most chunderous example of an attempt to be cool/relevant while offering exactly the opposite, Colt Knost quoted a Nickelback back song ON AIR, and then Amanda Balionis called back the next lyric.
It really is a marvelous swing to watch. In a category largely dominated now by women (prettiest swing), he's vying for the top spot. Europe has a lot of promising RC options this September!
Seve was my Arnie. I have been a Euro fan in the Ryder Cup for many, many years, and of that tour, in general. With Hatgate, the outright lies from Cantlay and Schauffele, pay for play, and the UFCification of many younger golf fans, I would absolutely LOVE to see that team get their asses handed to them by the Europeans at Bethpage.
Geoff, pennies are out, but rumor has it that an Arizona congressman has drafted a bill to create the $500 bill that will feature the portrait of the new Chairman of the Kennedy Center. Pass the Filet-O-Fish.
Sadly the LPGA was an entire tape delay on one of the least interesting courses in recent memory and unbefitting the Founders. They deserve so much better, especially venues and leadership. Some would assert progress as purses got bigger.

Monahan, Scott and woods went to kiss the ring. I’m shocked, shocked I say. Vile
Chamblee also. He should resign if he really feels LIV is as evil as he purports.
One round of golf with the new President, and Brandel's worldview was changed: The way he chose to jettison his integrity is fascinating.
I find it disgusting.

BOHICA is a military slang term that means "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again". Funny and I wish you the best.

Was Mike Clayton the caddie for Sue Oh this week?
I don't know but he has looped many times for her. She's awesome.

Wordsmith # 1👏👏
Didn't see the Hydeki drop but do know he made bogey not par on 18 to make the cut on the number. The Quad was terrific as always
Thank you, corrected!
Did someone send Brandel photos of the latest bone saw models?

Geoff, nothing on the LPGA and Noh’s win? What is the State of the Game of the LPGA, nary a mention?
Sorry, ran out of time and space...
