In Europe, Dan Brown wins the BMW to set up Open return while World No. 1 amateur Lottie Woad wins a pro event. Plus, a U.S. Adaptive Open preview for this week's championship at Woodmont.
Just reading the list of players in the Adaptive event provided a jolt of humility along with a shock of gratitude, topped by admiration for these incredible people that can't be measured. Thanks for that.
Sorry to hear about the passing of "The Grip." Just last week, The Shotgun Start did a feature on the "Tiger Killer" and his big win at the John Deere.
"and a healthy dose of Quad preview coverage" Now we are talking. When are you wheels up? How good is the R & A with allowing you access? Better/worse than USGA, PGA or Augusta?
I'm off later this week. The R&A has been much better in recent years and very pleasant to work with. All of the major organizations are in a good place when it comes to dealing with media (other than letting players dictate way too much when it comes to simple interviews).
Thank you, Geoff. Great coverage of the important and unimportant events as always. Speaking of the later... I had the Quad Cities on in the background this weekend and was quite surprised to hear Ian Baker-Finch say not once but twice that "the field is one of the strongest of the year". Once on Saturday and once yesterday. I don't know what drugs he is taking but I want some! He must have meant the smell was the strongest. Yipes. I don't get into the weeds of all the stat stuff (Fed EX standing, OGWR, etc, my measuring bar is how many former major championship winners are competing. LIV messed that up a bit, but it still is a good indicator.
Your four competing Quads were: Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Jason Day and ahem Danny Willett. 2009, 2015 (2) and 2016. The weakest showing of the year of any non-opposite field event.
Definitely one of the Deere's strongest by today's compromised world ranking! I did hear someone mention the Scottish field next week, which is definitely one of the best of the year! 😉
Great stuff. Geoff your spot on about the need for any forward thinking PGAT to rethink both Europe and Australia. But the same old and playing the West Coast when the courses are NOT firm is old and tired formula. Did the PGAT who really on a weekend like this gets a little bit more coverage the LIV.
Cue the sarcasm. If you believe everything Johnny Miller said or wrote, then Ed Fiori defeated Tiger Woods in a playoff. That's according to Miller's book 'I call the shots'.
You can turn off the sarcasm now. I recall Fiori holing long putts on the last hole of play, at the Bob Hope to defeat Tom Kite in sudden death, and for par to wrap up his Western Open win at Butler National. RIP Ed Fiori.
Heart warming and encouraging summaries of the players. Thank you.

Thank you for telling all those stories. The perseverance!
I am there now. I am humbled by each and everyone. They know a passion for our beautiful game in the most simple form.
thank you Geoff for the mention!
Great coverage of the players in the Adaptive Open. Thank you
Adaptive Open makes one wonder who deserves the adulation ... Truly gifted or truly motivated.
How many WDs at the John Deere?

Quite a character he was and I was embarrassed to learn he was a SoCal native. Had no idea.
Downey was HQ for North American Aviation. Built Apollo command module, design center for the Space Shuttle and first prototype. Interesting times.
why "the grip" ?

that looks like a neutral putter grip; but thanks

IBF said it more than once. I stopped counting when he got me choking on a hot dog.

Aldrich to LIV?
Nice work on the adaptives. I’m sure they appreciate the ink.
