McIlroy makes swing tweaks and talks merger. Plus, Whan speaks, Lincicome retires, Walker Cup invites, Smith's Captaincy extended, Quotables, This, That and Reads.
As a fellow Irishman I like Rory and he's one of the few golfers I enjoy watching - blessed with natural ability. However, he's consistently displayed a talent for failing to engage his brain before opening his mouth over the years and once again I can only shake my head. You have to wonder about his Management Team down the years. Tiger had the art of speaking for 10 minutes and saying nothing. It's a skill Rory ought to have learned by now. He's not a kid anymore.
Perhaps but the sport would be less interesting if he went into to robot mode. Which reminds me, Tiger needs to do a little more reflecting now that his best competitive days are behind him!
I've seen a few "I bought this before Elon went crazy" stickers. Not sure about the no-buy zone since every other car here seems to be a Tesla and we enjoy our cleaner air than the old days!
Yes and that's why I urged checking the video because on paper, they are very April 1ish, but the tone in the interview was more deflective/borderline facetious.
PGA Tour PIF negotiations ... a conundrum? Nope. Watch a flock of turkey buzzards fight over a road kill.
Recent news about negotiations ... at a meeting of PIF/LIV called by the King of Saudi Arabia he asked "Whose idea was LIV?" In a stampede to leave the room three were trampled.
I often struggle with overhead shots of golf courses and figuring out what is what. When I saw the picture of Augusta, I thought the 16th green was a bunker. Then spotted the 15th green, worked my way back and when I reread your note about “heavy top dressing” I figured it out. Yikes.
Yes definitely requires a caption since it's an angle we don't normally see. There is an outside chance that green was seeded and it's the sand base, but I don't see how that's possible with only 150 days to go to the Masters and their amazing history of making re-sodding greens look easy (it's not!).
Geoff - with some Walker Cup news in this newsletter, I am wondering if you have heard anything about tickets for the 2025 Walker Cup? I have inquired but heard little - and I'm wondering, with likely minimal capacity for parking, etc. and a membership with first priority to buy that will likely show out in strong numbers, whether there will even be publicly available tickets for 2025? I certainly hope that is not the case - would love any insight you might have. Thanks, as always!
We should have an answer soon. I’ve asked the USGA and I’ll definitely get the word out as soon as there is word. It will be limited and I suspect there is even a chance sales never reach past USGA members and Cypress Point. So I highly recommend a USGA membership!

Thank you for the Quincy Jones arrangement and the Rory context. Cheers.
Bumper sticker I saw in LA; "I own a Tesla, shut-up Elon". Guess the California market is heading towards a "no buy" zone now.

At first I thought the Rory stuff was from an April fools day post. Seems like you made it up. He is always interesting.

Classy end to this edition of the Quad! Well done and another interesting read.
Quincy was all class! World class manager of massive egos too!

Rory hitting balls in a screen was just him preparing for the TGL. Go Bullfrogs!
Yes but it can never simulate an arena full of 1500 Commons Frogs fans trying to root their boys to victory.
Geoff, thanks for the reminder of just what a loss QJ is. Cheered up my gloomy grey morning in the UK no end.
Glad you enjoyed. Such an interesting and talented man.
