Writers snub Cameron Smith for POY. Plus, Winged Foot commits to one major at a time, a look at the Masters special invites, the Netflix docudrama finally has a drop date and a bunch more.
Update to today's edition: In announcing the 2024 Latin America Amateur's venue (Santa Maria Golf Club in Panama), the organizations announced that in addition to Masters and Open invites on the line, the USGA will be exempting this week's winner to the 2023 U.S. Open. So three major berths are on the line this week.
I have been a F1 fan for 30 years but I don't get Netflix, so I have never seen "Drive To Survive." However, from what I have heard, it is a great show about last year's racing. I fail to understand why I want to watch a show about last year's circus when I can watch this year's version in real time.
I won't be watching the new show on Netflix about last year's golf for both reasons. I will be watching the Latin America Amateur Championship this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed last year's event -- which I watched live.
I voted for Minjee too. Ko played great obviously, but 79.5% of the vote? That's a headscratcher. Chances of Chambers Bay getting another US Open in my lifetime slowly fading. That's a shame. With the greens sorted and time to rethink the marshalling in some of the trouble spots, I think its second US Open would be brilliant.
Pebble/AT&T in two weeks and there are a few videos out of bad flooding on the course as well as flooding that might block of access to the Monterey Peninsula. Any local word on what's expected? Too soon to tell? It's the only time each year I get to see Huey Lewis and feel bad about thinking Bill Murray's act is getting stale.
Geoff, any idea how Pebble is faring with all of the rain you are getting out there? Shane Bacon announced yesterday that he is no longer with NBC. Another victim of cost cutting?
Smith is is the POY and it should not have been close. Cannot understand why the West Coast does not get more venues in the USOpen rotation. I was not thrilled with going to Wing Foot, a top private country club, but these type of clubs do not translate well on television. Geoff anything on last weeks ratings? To me it would be better to play this tournament with a Tuesday start and Friday finish.
With regards to US Open Venues: Why did they overcommit to Pinehurst and Pebble? This seems like the cardinal sin. We don't need them ever 6-7 years. Meanwhile everyone in Massachusetts is wondering what could have gone better last year to get another open, the midwest is wondering why Oakland Hills is the only option and only gets two in 30 years (what happened to Inverness?), and everyone who loves a great tournament is pencilling in Shinnecock once a decade and then wondering how many slots are left for other interesting places.

And do pipe down, Poulter.
Though I live on the west coast now, it's still disappointing to see the "fly over" states ignore by the PGA and USGA for so long.
