First player reviews of Augusta's 13th tee. Plus, Perpall nominated to be the next USGA president, Milstein v. Nicklaus affidavits, SBJ reader survey results and a bunch of other good Reads.
Thanks for the updates. Looking forward to seeing the 13th become a true par 5 again hopefully.
Living in Moore County it has been a bizarre week for sure, hopefully the perp will be brought to justice soon.
Hate to say it, but honestly golf on TV is pretty boring now. Hit very long drive and follow up with a short iron or wedge into the green. The women’s game is usually more boring, at least the men go off line enough to have to hit some recovery shots. Plus the incessant talking on any American broadcast begs for the mute button. It seems hard to compare this year to last since the World Cup is on. Though watching athletes run around for 90 minutes to score a goal ranks up there in the boring levels as well. Watching on Spanish language “which I don’t speak” does help. They at least generate some excitement.
No worries! Big Randy had Proctor on the Trapdraw pod. His background and how he started writing is pretty amazing. Glad the book coming together. Had Tom Coyne tell me the only time to release a golf is just before Father’s Day, so you are right on schedule! Any thoughts on some of the hierarchy at LIV bailing out? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hope to see you at the PGA for another meet up. Bring your parka🥶
PGA Golf announcers could learn a few things from the DP (European) Tour announcers. Very little bombast, much less meaningless chatter and cross talk. They don't get in the way of the game. That being said, the DP on-course interviews are no less interesting or lacking in cliches than the PGA post-round interviews. "How important is it that you made that shot/missed that shot/got the early draw today/got the late draw today/made the putt today that you missed testerday/missed the putt that you made yesterday/blah/blah/blah. THAT being said, Ms. Tappen was a good one - she didn't do much of that. Steve Sands, who seems like a good guy, doesn't know how to begin a sentence without "How important was it...?" Just cringeworthy, patronizing, and useless.
The picture of Ashley Perez is what you get when a 35+ year-old woman is afraid of growing older. On the plus side, she’s the perfect wife for Pat. Time magazine’s Liv couple of the year.
So Augusta moves the tee back and it still will play like a long par 4 and that is progress? As far as the venues for the Solheim Cup, these tony old style country club's do not come off well on television and Whistling Straits does and makes it an obvious choice. Memo to the powers that be that if you want people to watch old style tree line courses are not interesting watches. But it comes down to where the powers can profit the most. The more we observe how golf is run I wonder as rating either decline or are stagnant post Tiger maybe the Tours and networks need to consult the more casual fan to see what make good television, but it is not 4.5-5 hour rounds. prediction. the non major tournaments will move to shotgun weekend starts.
Hey Geoff, Christmas is around the corner and we still need a column on what’s on “Geoff’s Bookcase.”
Need recommendations on books to buy for our fellow golfers. When is your new book coming out?
God bless Sarah Langs and her family. What an emotional story.
